Exterior Waste Receptacle Inventory at Texas A&M University

I assisted with a pilot program at Texas A&M to re-purpose concrete aggregate landfill-destined waste receptacles into strategically-placed multi-stream recycling facilities in areas with high pedestrian traffic.
In the spring of 2016, I served as a project manager for the Texas A&M Geography Society's Exterior Waste Receptacle Inventory. I oversaw the East Campus portion of the project, which included instructing students on using Garmin handheld GPS units and collecting data for over 850 exterior waste receptacles. This project was commissioned by the SSC Services for Education in an effort to improve sustainability and decrease landfill-destined waste on Texas A&M's campus.
This project led to an internship as the SSC Services for Education's first GIS Sustainability Intern in the summer of 2016. During this internship, I worked closely with the Sanitation Team to collect comprehensive data of the exterior waste receptacles on campus to create an ArcGIS Online Map. This work contributed to route creation to increase efficiency and I aided in the strategic placement of Multi-Stream "Big Belly" Receptacles to increase recycling efforts on campus.
